Oh yeah I blind ordered a 125 mL in the aluminum can, received it, smelt it, immediately bought another. This fragrance is all that is man. A dapper man, that is. It starts off astringent, sharp green woody the distilled essence of lumberjack. It dries into a spicy, sophisticated, seductive, high quality barbershop shave cream. The drydown smells like it could be produced naturally by you. Have you ever been fishing, but absolutely nothing is biting So, you tie on that one special lure, it catches you that rare, highly sought after prized gamefish Thats Rive Gauche.

This scent starts out seeming quite subtle on the skin and you think it will disappear BUT after 15 mins or so it bursts out with a wonderful, complex floral bouquet that lasts and lasts. Most perfumes fade out on me but not this one. Also, the scent does not decay as it fades, becoming powerdery or flat as so many more expensive ones do. It retains all its flowery notes. It is not overbearing nor aggressive, but is subtle, unusual and sensuous. People comment on it as if they half recognise it and like it, but dont know it. This is becasue it isnt an obvious scent like so many modern ones. It is cool, classy and restrained. Someone said it smells like silver dust and I know what they mean.I wear No 5 in the evening if going out as it has glamour and chic but for everyday wear, Rive Gauche is wonderful, its like wearing a perfect simple black dress or jeans with the perfect white shirt. And, the cute metal container means you can carry it with you with no risk of breakage.

Definitely a benchmark scent when it first came out, I picked up a bottle after getting a whiff of the scent trail. This is one of those mens fragrances that really changed the game, spawning off insane flankers like La Nuit De LHomme and LHomme Ultime. Such a strong addition to the YSL line that even with newer products like Y, Id pick the LHomme lineup every day and twice on Sunday, and its all because of this one right here. The great thing about LHomme is just like the Prada fragrance with the same name… theyre both fresh and linear, so what you smell at the time of the first spray as well as the dry down will be the same. Therefore, if you like it at first smell, youll enjoy it all the way through. However that brings me to my next point… My only reason for docking a star is the longevity could be wayyyy better. Projection is good for about 1.5hrs, Scent is fantastic, and it screams to be worn in warmer weather due to its weak performance. Gents If you have a job interview coming and you know the interviewer is A not scent sensitive and B a woman, you cant go wrong with a few sprays of this beforehand. Same goes with a date that you dont mind getting close to.

Will have to purchase from YSL site as my Perfumes of London purchase is more green smelling than original fresh powdery clean fragrance. The bottle I just finished using was from France back in the late 90s I asked a friend to buy to compare USA to France version. Never buying from Perfumes of London or eBay again with this fragrance. Staying power lacks in comparison as well.Incidentally, please please please bring back short lived fragrance tuxedoNext to rive gauche my all time favorite by ysl. Thank you.
